Sementes Vivas' organic Giant Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seeds, available at Geocakes, produce majestic plants that can reach 2 metres in height. With a large dark-brown centre surrounded by golden petals, they're one of the simplest spectacles to grow in any garden or vegetable patch, even for someone who has never planted anything before.
Giant Sunflower: Majesty from Beira Baixa
Each plant develops one large main flower, and may also form a few smaller side flowers depending on growing conditions, soil and spacing between plants. These seeds reach you through Sementes Vivas, a Geocakes partner based in Idanha-a-Nova, with organic and Demeter (biodynamic farming) certification, sharing the same values of respect for the land and the Naturtejo Geopark's natural cycles.
How to Grow It in Your Garden
Sow in full sun with well-drained soil, once the risk of frost has passed. The Giant Sunflower grows quickly and doesn't need complicated care, but benefits from regular watering while it develops and plenty of space for its roots to establish. Each pack contains 5g of seeds, enough for several plants across your garden or vegetable patch.
A Curious Fact About the Sun
While still young, before the flower fully opens, the Giant Sunflower actually follows the sun's movement throughout the day, a phenomenon called heliotropism. After flowering, the flower settles facing east, ready to catch the first rays of sun each morning, and stops moving for the rest of the day.
Why Choose These Seeds
The "Barroco do Boieco" Hamper celebrates Beira Baixa's gastronomic richness through a careful selection of handcrafted and organic products from the region. This hamper takes its name from a geosite, the Barroco do Boieco - a giant granite boulder, formed from magma generated deep within the Earth. Millions of years of erosion have rounded and shaped this giant boulder that we see today at the foot of the Escarpa do Ponsul. This hamper brings together authentic flavours from local producers, from Quinta dos Termos wines to Quinta do Capilé sheep cheese, presented in an elegant wooden basket.
Authentic Flavours from Beira Baixa
This gastronomic hamper represents a sensory journey through Beira Baixa's traditional flavours, a UNESCO territory recognised for its geological diversity and gastronomic richness. Each product was carefully selected from local producers who preserve ancestral techniques and value the region's native resources.

Traditional Idanha-a-Nova Adufe, in a Decorative Version
This handcrafted wooden Adufe, with a built-in magnet, is a faithful representation of the musical instrument that has accompanied Beira Baixa's folk songs and dances for centuries. More than a decorative object, it's a small tribute to Idanha-a-Nova's cultural identity, designed to decorate fridges, doors or metal furniture with meaning.
A Tribute to Beira Baixa's Folk Music
The Adufe is one of the most emblematic percussion instruments in traditional Portuguese music, found mainly in inland Portugal, where folk groups and cultural festivals keep its sound alive. This wooden piece evokes that tradition, made using handcrafted techniques passed down through generations.
Idanha-a-Nova: A Land of History and Tradition
Founded in 1187 by order of Gualdim Pais, Idanha-a-Nova carries with it centuries of Templar history. The town received its Royal Charter from D. Sancho I in 1206, and its walls and traditions still echo with the ancient celebrations where the Adufe set the rhythm of community life.
Key Features
Use and Care
This Adufe is not a toy: it is a purely decorative piece, designed for display on metal surfaces thanks to its built-in magnet. To keep its beauty over time, clean only with a dry cloth, without water or cleaning products.
Morcela is one of the oldest sausages in Portuguese cooking. In Beira Baixa, it has a face of its own: pork meat, blood, garlic, paprika and cumin, in a recipe that has come down from kitchen to kitchen, with no need to justify itself. This is how Geocakes brings it to you, with the authenticity of those who respect what is genuine.
An Ancestral Recipe from Idanha-a-Nova
Made in Beira Baixa, within the territory of the UNESCO Naturtejo Geopark, this morcela follows the traditional methods that define this region's charcuterie. The ingredients are simple and direct: selected pork meat, blood, garlic, salt, paprika and cumin. Nothing more, nothing less. It's that restraint that gives it its character. Paprika brings colour and a light warmth, cumin the unmistakable aroma that sets Beira Baixa's morcela apart from any other.

A Flower You Can Eat - The Rosa Albardeira from Beira Baixa
Geocakes' Organic Rosas Albardeiras were born from a tribute to the Paeonia broteri - the flower that gave its name and identity to Toulões, an Idanha-a-Nova village known as the capital of the rosas albardeiras. Each biscuit is shaped with the care of someone who respects the territory and wants it to reach your table in a tasty, genuine way.
With the GeoFood Seal from the UNESCO Naturtejo Geopark, these little biscuits are much more than a handcrafted treat - they're a declaration of love for Beira Baixa's endemic flora, made by hand in Idanha-a-Nova by the Geocakes team.
Pink Colour, Rooted in the Land
The pink hue that sets the Organic Rosas Albardeiras apart doesn't come from any artificial colouring - it comes from beetroot powder, an organic farming ingredient that gives the dough a soft, characteristic colour. Combined with the unmistakable aroma of the region's rosemary, the result is a biscuit that smells of the countryside and carries Beira Baixa's genuine flavour.
The recipe combines organic wheat flour with margarine, sugar, egg, baking soda, beetroot powder and rosemary. Simple ingredients, of verifiable origin, worked with the handcrafted know-how Geocakes has preserved since 2012.
Why Choose the Organic Rosas Albardeiras

A biscuit that tells the story of the Earth
500 million years ago, they lived in the Palaeozoic seas. Today, they live in Beira Baixa in biscuit form. Geocakes Trilobites are an edible tribute to the Naturtejo Geopark's geological past - created by Chef Raquel in Idanha-a-Nova, with cinnamon, chocolate and over 40 years of handcrafted know-how.
Geocakes Trilobites are born from the geological inspiration of the Naturtejo Geopark - the first Portuguese geopark recognised by UNESCO. Their shape evokes the extinct Palaeozoic arthropods whose fossils dot the Idanha-a-Nova territory. An idea only Geocakes had: turning geological heritage into a handcrafted biscuit with a unique identity and genuine flavour.
The recipe combines wheat flour (40%) with margarine, sugar, eggs (7%), chocolate and cinnamon - local ingredients, no GMOs, no lactose, with a shelf life of up to 120 days. Each Trilobite is hand-shaped by the Geocakes team, with the time and care a recipe with 40 years of history deserves.
With the GeoFood Seal from the Naturtejo Geopark (UNESCO)
The Trilobites carry the GeoFood Seal, awarded by the Naturtejo Geopark - a UNESCO network - to products that authentically and verifiably represent the territory. A biscuit with this name and this shape could only have been born here - in Idanha-a-Nova, next to the Chafariz da Senhora da Graça.
Geology, chocolate and cinnamon - none left out
How to Enjoy the Trilobites
They pair well with afternoon tea, morning coffee, or a table of sweets with a story to tell. The combination of chocolate and cinnamon also makes them an appealing gift choice - especially for anyone who appreciates gastronomic curiosities with territorial identity. Available in bulk, by the kilo, to enjoy at your own pace with no waste.
