ORGANIC FARMING METHOD - Plants and plant products and Processed products*

The Organic Farming Method is a farm management and food production system that favours the preservation of natural resources, the promotion of biodiversity and the application of animal welfare standards. It is based on Regulation (EC) No 834/2007.

Organic plant production contributes to maintaining and increasing soil fertility and protecting it against erosion.

Reference to this production method is a guarantee that a food product has been produced in line with organic processes, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. The use of synthetic chemical fertilisers, pesticides or veterinary medicines is restricted, favouring the use of products from organic production, natural or derived substances and low-solubility mineral fertilisers. Organic products are free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

To ensure that organic products are produced in compliance with the European Organic Farming Regulation, the activities of operators at all stages of production, preparation and distribution are subject to a control system. It is therefore mandatory for each organic product to have a corresponding Organic Farming Method Certificate, and for all operators involved in a product's certification process to hold a contract with a Control Body.

KIWA/SATIVA, as a Product Certification Body, carries out agri-food production control activities, with the aim of guaranteeing consumers complete traceability of the chain of products it controls and certifies.

KIWA/SATIVA's European certification body code for Organic Farming is PT-BIO-03.
