Mini Marafona with Magnet, Monsanto Tradition in a Practical Format
The Mini Marafona with magnet represents one of the most emblematic symbols of the historic village of Monsanto. This traditional rag doll, just 3 x 3 cm, faithfully preserves the original structure: a wooden cross wrapped in colourful fabric, creating a vibrant regional costume in random colours.
Important note: this listing is for 1 (one) unit. The product images show several pieces purely to illustrate the range of colours, but each purchase includes only one Mini Marafona.
Symbolism and Protection
According to popular tradition, marafonas were used by young women of marrying age to celebrate fertility and marital happiness. Placed on the bed, they protected the home from storms and the evil eye. On the wedding day, they were kept under the bed, since without eyes, ears or mouth, they saw nothing and told nothing, ensuring discretion and good luck for the couple.
Practical Format with Magnet
Unlike the larger versions, this Mini Marafona comes with a built-in magnet, making it ideal for decorating fridges, doors or any metal surface. It's a simple, everyday way to keep Beira Baixa's cultural heritage present.

Use and Care
This Mini Marafona is not a toy: it is a purely decorative piece. To keep its beauty over time, clean only with a dry cloth, without water or cleaning products.

Sementes Vivas' organic Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) seeds, available at Geocakes, bring a vigorous tropical plant to your garden or greenhouse. With autumn flowering and intense red calyces, it's the base of the well-known hibiscus tea, now within reach of anyone wanting to grow it in Portugal.
Hibiscus Sabdariffa: A Tropical Plant in Beira Baixa
Originally from Herdade do Couto da Várzea, in Idanha-a-Nova, these seeds reach you through Sementes Vivas, a Geocakes partner in the Naturtejo Geopark, with organic and Demeter (biodynamic farming) certification. Hibiscus sabdariffa flowers naturally in autumn, as the days start to shorten, after a whole summer of growing and gaining height.
How to Grow It in Your Garden
Being a tropical plant, Hibiscus adapts better to the Portuguese climate with protected growing, in a greenhouse or a sheltered, warm spot, especially during the colder months. It prefers full sun and regular watering during growth, and rewards patience with a striking, vigorous plant with lush foliage. Each pack contains 10g of seeds, enough to try growing this still-uncommon crop.
From the Land to the Cup
After flowering, the red, fleshy calyces that surround the seed can be harvested and dried, to prepare the traditional hibiscus tea, tart and intensely coloured, known in many cultures by different names. A simple way to follow the plant's whole journey, from sowing to cup, without leaving your own garden. Each harvest can also be stored for winter, dried and ready to infuse whenever you like.

Biscuits with 500 Million Years of History
Geocakes' Organic Trilobites are an edible tribute to one of the most fascinating animals in Earth's history: marine arthropods that ruled the oceans for over 250 million years and left their fossilised traces in Beira Baixa's rocks. Each biscuit is handcrafted to evoke the shape of these extinct creatures, turning every pack into an experience between gastronomy and palaeontology.
Made in Idanha-a-Nova, at the heart of the Naturtejo Geopark - Portugal's first UNESCO Global Geopark -, these little biscuits come from a recipe unique and exclusive to Geocakes, created by Chef Raquel Ramos to be as unique as the territory they celebrate. With the GeoFood Seal, the Organic Trilobites are genuine ambassadors of the Geopark to the world.
Ingredients from Organic Farming
The recipe combines organic wheat flour (40%) with eggs (7%), chocolate, millet and cinnamon, all from organic farming. The choice of each ingredient respects the values that have guided Geocakes since 2012: naturalness, verifiable origin and respect for the territory. The result is a crunchy, lightly sweetened biscuit, with notes of chocolate and cinnamon that complement each other in an unmistakable texture.
A Handcrafted, Lactose-Free Recipe
For anyone avoiding lactose products, the Organic Trilobites are a safe, tasty choice. The recipe includes no milk or dairy, keeping all the crunch and complex flavour that set Geocakes' handcrafted production apart. Each 190g pack has a 120-day shelf life - more than enough time to share, gift or enjoy at your own pace.
Why Choose the Organic Trilobites
A Gift with Portuguese Soul
The Organic Trilobites are one of Geocakes' most distinctive products - impossible to find anywhere else, because they were born from an exclusive partnership with the Naturtejo Geopark and a recipe that exists only here. Packaged with no unnecessary plastic, they make a perfect gift for anyone who appreciates authenticity, history and the genuine flavours of inland Portugal.
Some wines hold the memory of a landscape. This red from Herdade do Escrivão is one of them. Produced in Beira Interior following the principles of biodynamic farming, it expresses the character of the Beira land in every sip, with the authenticity of those who treat the vineyard as part of a living ecosystem.
An Estate with Deep Roots in Beira Interior
With 80 hectares near the Beira border, Herdade do Escrivão has over 20 years of organic farming practice and, since 2019, Demeter biodynamic certification. The vineyard, with 4.5 hectares planted on sandy schist soils, benefits from excellent sun exposure and a history of excellent plant health. The estate also produces vegetables, cereals and pastures, and is home to a herd of Charnequeira goats, integrating the vineyard into a living, self-sufficient system. The team is led by viticulturist Miguel Valente and winemaker João Salavessa.
Traditional Portuguese Varieties, Pure Terroir Expression
The blend is made up of Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira and Tinta Roriz, three varieties that characterise Beira Interior's red wines and that find here a carefully tended growing environment. Ageing in stainless steel preserves the fruit's freshness and varietal identity, without interference from wood.
What You'll Find in the Glass
An intense garnet colour. On the nose, ripe red fruit stands out, with cherries and plums up front and wild blackberry notes adding depth. On the palate, velvety tannins give it structure without weight, the balance is remarkable and the finish is long and pleasant. A wine that invites a second glass.
Why Choose This Wine

Beira Baixa's Musical Tradition in Miniature
Geocakes' mini Adufe with magnet is a faithful reproduction of the musical instrument that marks Idanha-a-Nova's sound identity. With compact dimensions of 3 by 3 cm, it preserves the handcrafted wood and natural hide construction, keeping the characteristics of the ancestral instrument that still echoes today in the region's festivals and traditions.
An Instrument with Age-Old Roots
The Adufe has a history spanning centuries. Introduced to the Iberian Peninsula by the Arabs between the 8th and 9th centuries, this percussion instrument established a particular link to women, a tradition tracing back to the civilisations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome, as historical iconographic evidence shows. In Idanha-a-Nova, the Adufe has stayed alive as a cultural symbol, played in processions, folk festivals and celebrations across generations.
A Decorative Piece with Soul
This mini Adufe isn't meant to be played as an instrument. It was created as a decorative piece, with a built-in magnet that lets you attach it to metal surfaces, like the fridge or a metal noticeboard, turning it into a visible everyday keepsake. Each piece keeps the natural textures of wood and hide, materials that make every mini Adufe slightly unique.
Key Features
Use and Care
This mini Adufe is purely decorative and should not be mistaken for a toy. Keep out of reach of small children, due to its small size and built-in magnet. To keep it in good condition, clean only with a dry cloth, without water or cleaning products.
