Beira Baixa's Musical Tradition in Miniature
Geocakes' mini Adufe with magnet is a faithful reproduction of the musical instrument that marks Idanha-a-Nova's sound identity. With compact dimensions of 3 by 3 cm, it preserves the handcrafted wood and natural hide construction, keeping the characteristics of the ancestral instrument that still echoes today in the region's festivals and traditions.
An Instrument with Age-Old Roots
The Adufe has a history spanning centuries. Introduced to the Iberian Peninsula by the Arabs between the 8th and 9th centuries, this percussion instrument established a particular link to women, a tradition tracing back to the civilisations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome, as historical iconographic evidence shows. In Idanha-a-Nova, the Adufe has stayed alive as a cultural symbol, played in processions, folk festivals and celebrations across generations.
A Decorative Piece with Soul
This mini Adufe isn't meant to be played as an instrument. It was created as a decorative piece, with a built-in magnet that lets you attach it to metal surfaces, like the fridge or a metal noticeboard, turning it into a visible everyday keepsake. Each piece keeps the natural textures of wood and hide, materials that make every mini Adufe slightly unique.
Key Features
Use and Care
This mini Adufe is purely decorative and should not be mistaken for a toy. Keep out of reach of small children, due to its small size and built-in magnet. To keep it in good condition, clean only with a dry cloth, without water or cleaning products.
A Miniature with Idanha-a-Velha's History
This mini stone house recreates, on a small scale, the traditional architecture of Idanha-a-Velha, an age-old settlement at the heart of the Naturtejo Geopark, the first UNESCO Global Geopark recognised in Portugal. Each piece is worked by hand, preserving Beira Baixa's handcrafted techniques and paying tribute to this historic village's Roman heritage.
A Village with Over Two Thousand Years of History
Idanha-a-Velha was founded by the Romans in the late 1st century BC and raised to municipality status about a century later. It survived Germanic invasions, became a bishopric seat under the Suevi, and kept that status under the Visigoths, a period that gave rise to the famous legend of King Wamba. It's this living memory that this miniature seeks to preserve and share.
A Decorative Piece with Territorial Soul
This mini house isn't a toy, but a decorative piece with a built-in magnet, designed to accompany everyday life on metal surfaces, like the fridge or a noticeboard. Being made of natural stone, each piece keeps small variations in colour and texture, making every one slightly unique.

A Medieval Village in Miniature, with a Magnet
This mini stone house represents the historic village of Penha Garcia, in Beira Baixa, whose vantage position over the River Ponsul has impressed for centuries. Handmade by Geocakes, it turns the memory of a former municipal seat into a small, functional piece that can accompany you every day, on the fridge or a noticeboard.
Penha Garcia: Templars, Charters and Memory
Penha Garcia was a refuge for outlaws by order of Infante D. Henrique and received its royal charter from D. Afonso III in 1256, renewed by D. Manuel in 1510. The village passed through the hands of the Knights Templar and, later, the Order of Christ, leaving a historical heritage that Geocakes seeks to honour in every piece of craftwork it produces.
Handmade in Beira Baixa
Each miniature is handcrafted from natural stone sourced in the region, with wood details and a magnet applied to the back. Being a handmade piece, small variations in the stone and finish are natural and part of each piece's character.

Mini Marafona with Magnet, Monsanto Tradition in a Practical Format
The Mini Marafona with magnet represents one of the most emblematic symbols of the historic village of Monsanto. This traditional rag doll, just 3 x 3 cm, faithfully preserves the original structure: a wooden cross wrapped in colourful fabric, creating a vibrant regional costume in random colours.
Important note: this listing is for 1 (one) unit. The product images show several pieces purely to illustrate the range of colours, but each purchase includes only one Mini Marafona.
Symbolism and Protection
According to popular tradition, marafonas were used by young women of marrying age to celebrate fertility and marital happiness. Placed on the bed, they protected the home from storms and the evil eye. On the wedding day, they were kept under the bed, since without eyes, ears or mouth, they saw nothing and told nothing, ensuring discretion and good luck for the couple.
Practical Format with Magnet
Unlike the larger versions, this Mini Marafona comes with a built-in magnet, making it ideal for decorating fridges, doors or any metal surface. It's a simple, everyday way to keep Beira Baixa's cultural heritage present.
Key Features
Use and Care
This Mini Marafona is not a toy: it is a purely decorative piece. To keep its beauty over time, clean only with a dry cloth, without water or cleaning products.

Morcela is one of the oldest sausages in Portuguese cooking. In Beira Baixa, it has a face of its own: pork meat, blood, garlic, paprika and cumin, in a recipe that has come down from kitchen to kitchen, with no need to justify itself. This is how Geocakes brings it to you, with the authenticity of those who respect what is genuine.
An Ancestral Recipe from Idanha-a-Nova
Made in Beira Baixa, within the territory of the UNESCO Naturtejo Geopark, this morcela follows the traditional methods that define this region's charcuterie. The ingredients are simple and direct: selected pork meat, blood, garlic, salt, paprika and cumin. Nothing more, nothing less. It's that restraint that gives it its character. Paprika brings colour and a light warmth, cumin the unmistakable aroma that sets Beira Baixa's morcela apart from any other.

Some tables stay in the memory. The Beira Baixa "3 Friends" Pack was made to be one of them. Farinheira, mouro and chouriça, the three most emblematic sausages of the region's traditional charcuterie, brought together in a single pack. Smoked over holm oak wood, with recipes passed down through generations, they reach your table with the genuine flavour of Idanha-a-Nova and the UNESCO Naturtejo Geopark.
Three Sausages, One Tradition
Each has its own personality. Farinheira, with no meat, with a soft texture and the aroma of paprika and bay leaf. Mouro, intense and smoky, marked by holm oak. Chouriça, balanced and aromatic, with the profile that defines Beira Baixa's charcuterie. Together, they complement each other and tell the story of the traditional Portuguese table better than any one could alone.
How to Enjoy the Pack

Beira Baixa's Paínho has a presence you can feel before you even taste it. The aroma of holm-oak smoking, the dark, even colour, the firm texture that reveals the quality of the meats used. It's a cured sausage with character, made from a tradition that Beira Baixa has preserved better than almost anywhere else in Portugal.
Prime Meats, Traditional Smokehouse, Centuries-Old Recipe
Made with lean pork, seasoned with paprika, garlic, spices and salt, and dried in the smokehouse over holm oak wood, this paínho follows a handcrafted process that's never rushed. Slow drying in the smokehouse is what turns the ingredients into a cured sausage with its own personality: concentrated in flavour, aromatic, and with a texture that's just as good thinly sliced as it is cooked.
It comes from Idanha-a-Nova, at the heart of the UNESCO Naturtejo Geopark, where Beira Baixa's traditional charcuterie know-how has withstood both time and industrialisation.
